The Tarrytown Lighthouse reopened on Saturday for public tours, just short of a year after being shut down due to vandalism.

Investigators say the historic building, built in 1883, was vandalized last summer after teenagers broke in, destroyed antiques and set a fire.

They say the four teenagers, ages 17 to 19, were arrested and charged with arson, burglary and vandalism.

Visitors to Saturday's re-opening of the lighthouse say the $100,000 restoration of the property makes it appear as if the vandalism never happened.

"What I saw inside, they did an amazing job. You will never know that something like that happened there," said Lily Iacopelli, of Irvington.

Her husband Tom agreed.

"We went up the stairs, it was beautiful. They did a phenomenal job of renovating it. It's just beautiful, spectacular. Considering the damage that was done and they were able to restore," he added.

Curators say the building has been restored to its original condition and security measures have been installed against future damage.
